When the truth is blurred, deception becomes an art

Few month ago, I encountered a very strange deal. A deal which was benefitting me but at the same time all the facts were not disclosed clearly to me. A doubt in my mind and my intuition about the hidden agenda push me to look for the complete truth and ultimately I ended up surprised amazed and even cheated by the person. The omission of the complete fact was deliberate and not a mistake or oversight. It was a genuine example of lie of omission. It was deception planned by the other party to intentionally withholds the critical information that would change my understanding of the situation...

People often like deceive others for their own benefit by hiding the truth. I was not different and almost get into a trap.

I was looking for a better room for my accomodation. After looking many option. I met a person who shown me a nice room. It was well painted, maintained room. It was hard to find such room in an area where most of the rooms were in dying stage. I was quite impressed with the room, and soon crack the deal. I even handed over the advance money with the promise of paying the remaining in next 10 days. But the person trying to oversmart approached me the next day asking for remaining amount by disclosing some urgency and lame excuses. The way he was convincing me raises my concern. He wanted to get the entire money before I make the shifting. But my intuition alerted me. I enquired about the flat from the neighbor and it turned out to be a room where a young girl committed suicide last year. The girl parent left the town handling the ownership of the room to this guy. But the guy never disclose the fact to me. Who wanted to shift to a room which has such negative vibes? He knew this and seeing my urgency wanted to trap me by omiting the complete facts.

Unlike an outright lie, where a person state something untrue, a lie of omission involves telling only a partial truth to mislead. This tactic often damages trust in relationships, as the withheld information can later come to light, leading to suspicion and a lack of integrity. In my case, if I shifted to that room and comes to know later of such haunted event may put me in stress and anxiety. Noone like to stay in such places which has seen mishappening. When people don't have the full picture, they cannot make informed decisions, leading to potentially harmful outcomes.

Lies are like selfies, sometimes you need a filter.

The strange behavior from the person does help me to nail his lies. It was not easy to track such but the way he trid to convince me for full payment raises my doubt. He wanted to get the entire money so that, I could not turn away from the deal. His signs like vagueness, lack of detail, repetition, and overly chronological accounts in their statements made me to belive something fishy. A liar who has omitted information will often get caught when asked to elaborate, as they have no truthful details to add to the incomplete story. He wanted to get with deal, and keep the money no matter how it will ends up with me. You never know what the room had for me, as most of the time such room were haunted.

I am very thankful to the neighbor , who did not hided anything. They were very upfront when I enquired about the flat and does added few more details to it. When I backed off the deal he again started convincing me. I confronted him, why no disclose the true facts, he said he dont belive in such things. But in real, he just wanted a source of extra rental money.

It was a bitter experience. Post the incident, I never met the person ever again. Lie is a lie and creates discontent.
