Well, let's compare it to the Dutch light version of the Spanish elGordo.
The only difference is the possible jackpot and that elGordo is a x-max lottery while the Dutch "Oudejaarstrekking" happens on the night of 31.12. to 01.01. each year.

By the way: I don't need to pay taxes for these 30 million euro - these are withheld already because including these taxes I would receive 42.25 million and had to pay 12.25 million to the Dutch government.
Oh, I almost forgot: I also have the chance to win one (actually two with my two tickets) of 250 Mini Coopers - no idea what the chances are to win one of these.

Yes, because they are cheap. And because they are cheap the chances to win are much lower.
Statistically, it's all the same - more or less - and we will never win one of these jackpots. But paying 2 euro (16 steem) or 30 euro (240 steem) for one ticket still makes a difference.

Conclusion

Knowing it will not happen, I still want you to know that if I'm posting a selfie on a white Caribbean beach with a cocktail in my hand in the beginning of January 2020 ... you now know why :)
