Celebrating our 6 Year Anniversary!
Any other couples out there on Steemit? I can hardly believe that Josh ( @raised2b ) and I have been together for six years now. We met through our local dance community (We both do west coast swing) and had kind of casually known each other for several years. I think there was always some attraction there for both of us, but we weren't often single at the same time and so nothing ever really came of it.

That all changed when one day he invited me to join him and a group of his friends on a 5 day canoe trip in the back country. I only had a couple reservations...
- I had never been in a canoe or paddled at all for more than 5 minutes
- I had never been on a back country camping trip
- He was the only person I knew going... and we barely knew each other
- I have a pretty risk averse/cautious personality (probably based on fear... and shit from my childhood... don't worry, i'll save that for another day)
I really liked this guy though, and so I decided to take a risk and just go for it. That decision was followed by lots of googling on what to wear, what to bring and in general what to expect. The internet basically let me down because I somehow showed up to the trip with mostly Adidas workout gear. (facepalm) Also... how do I get in shape for paddling? Should I "start working out more"? My little dumbells saw some action the weeks leading up to the trip.
It really and truly ended up being the most amazing and magical five days. Being out of cell range for that long with an incredible group of people in one of the most beautiful places on earth really opened my eyes to what life should feel like. Here are a few shots from that trip.

The funny part is, one of my best memories from this whole experience was the day before we even left. Everyone else that was going on the trip lived at least a few hours away, and so I was the only other local person. He was going to do all of the food shopping and prep himself - and so I offered to help. We ended up spending over 9 hours that day shopping, chopping, prepping and most importantly ... laughing. I had never had that much fun in Costco before! Towards the end of our day, I realized that it was our first time alone together and we both had so much fun that the day flew by. That's when I realized that I could really see myself being with this guy.
We ended up deciding to "make it official" on our way home from a friends wedding a month or two later. If you can believe it, I caught the bouquet at that wedding and he caught the garter! I still get a kick out of the irony there. Here's a shot of us dancing that night. Probably still my favorite picture of us.

Here's a couple other shots of us throughout the years!

Love you babe <3
So many great memories and adventures, so glad you decided to come along on that first one. Can't believe it's been 6 years now! So many adventures behind and ahead :)
Sounds like it's time for a celebratory canoe trip... Hope I didn't ruin his surprise!! (cough)
Hahah no you’re safe! It’s starting to get a little colder we live. We are heading up to Whistler, Canada in a few weeks for cozy cabin type get away.
