RE: Why You Should Watch Marvel’s Runaways

I watched the first 3 episodes and I'll probably catch up and keep watching at some point to give it a try, but I'm not finding myself hanging on the edge of my seat to find out what happens next.

I've generally abandoned all DC/Marvel TV shows at this point because they're all just so damned horrible. The exceptions are Gotham (DC) and Powerless (DC)...

Gotham because the script-writers manage to always "pull everything together" at the end of the season in such a fantastic way, and the way the characters struggle against their nature, and grow, is great to see (Donal Logue between indifference and "being good", for example). Powerless just because it's a bit of fun.

All the other shows I'm finding are suffering from being dumbed down to appeal to the lowest common denominator, with as many CW cliches as they can cram into them. Most of it comes back to poor script-writing/storytelling and no character development, and so then they cram as many of these devices in as they can to try and keep it interesting.

Inhumans definitely suffered from that, I thought.

My first impression of Runaways is that it was okay, but I definitely noted that shallowness of character that is designed to appeal to a certain demographic of audience. Not sure I'll be able to be a long-term viewer when there are so many other great shows around.
