A real problem Web3 could solve

I’ve been wanting to write about this for a while. I believe that Steem, as a blockchain, has the potential to solve one of the biggest problems in our society: real objective press.

I’ve worked in different media in the past and I’ve noticed a recurrent problem, journalists -especially digital journalists- don’t have a secure source of income. You’re either limited by ads, and algorithms or bounded by the people or institutions that finance you. In that scenario, you’re pushed to create clickbaity pieces or sell your pen -and objectivity- for a few bucks.

In that sense, I think that a blockchain like Steem could reward content creators. And I’d like to emphasis that: content creators, not just a regular person blogging about his everyday life that interests no-one except a few acquaintances.

An idea that I’ve been ruminating is… What if we have a blockchain that rewards creators? (It could begin with writers/journalists, but in the future could include podcasters, streamers, etc).

In order to do this, the Organization could separate between producers and consumers in the register process.

  • Producer: you prove that you work for a media, have experience or followers.
  • Consumer: you just wanna enjoy what your fav journalist/creators share.

The logic is the same as Steemit. Everytime a creator creates something, he/she gets a slice of the pie (tokens); and everytime a consumer likes something, it goes to that creator.

However, the difference is that the consumer doesn’t get tokens and his/her voting power is delegated by the Organization in a way that every like provides 0.03 US cents (which is roughly what a YouTuber gets per view).

The consumer wins because he doesn’t have to pay from his/her own pocket, and doesn’t have to deal with annoying ads.

The creator wins because he doesn't have to sell out.

I know there are other aspects that need to be solved, like the economic side (it could have a sort of Central Bank that manipulates the token’s price by selling/buying/delegating ala stablecoin).

The Organization itself could be a form of non-profit Cooperative created by journos. I personally know people who might be interested.

Lemme know what you think. I'm open for questions.
