Importance of having Medical Insurance

in #medical15 days ago

These days the medical treatments have become so expensive that having a medical insurance is a necessity. Till the time I was working in a job my Company provided me medical insurance, which was a good coverage but once I stopped working then there was no insurance so I had to take a private insurance. Initially I was hesitant because in many years I have never had a need to use my medical insurance, but hubby insisted that I do it. And what luck, because after that I had spine issues and had to undergo a surgery and the insurance covered it fully. The cost was high, if I would have not had my insurance, I would had to pay from my own pocket.

The medical premium gets high as we age but so does the medical expense also. Couple of years back, when hubby was diagnosed with Myasthenia Gravis, for 3 years we had major medical expenses. They were so high that if we had to pay from our pockets we would have ended up using all our savings. That time I really felt how important it was to have the medical insurance.

In different parts of the world, the medical facilities are different. Back in India, there are government hospitals which will provide subsidized treatments but then the quality of treatment is not efficient and unreliable so one can never rely on it. Now there are many people, who cannot afford high insurance premiums and go for bigger coverages so they have no choice but to go to these hospitals but then there is always a risk and there is not enough expertise also available there. In many countries the medical facilities of government hospitals are very efficient but that's not the case in India, and critical illnesses will not even receive good attention.

If good health care and financial protection is needed then having a medical insurance policy is a must. It only brings peace of mind. Because government hospitals do not provide efficient medical treatment and private hospital charges are way too high to be covered up.
