Surgeons were shocked when, while removing a tumor from an infant's brain, they discovered body parts including a perfectly formed tiny foot.

The doctors found a foot, thigh, a hand, and another partially formed foot inside the boy's brain during the operation.

The growth was suspected be one of two things: a teratoma, which is a mass that contains various incompletely formed body parts that may include hair and teeth. Or, another possibility, much rarer, is that the foot belongs to another fetus inside his brain (fetus in fetu). The term literally means “fetus in fetus” and occurs when one twin engulfs the other in the womb. The engulfed twin grows and develops in the other twin’s body.

The growth proved to be non-cancerous.
Surgeons removed the growth 3 days after his birth, and his survival was described as a miracle.
