RE: How black can black get... black days, black thoughts, black actions... Black Metal [Metal Tree: 21]
I could listen to some of the more melodic stuff, but the blood and gore does nothing for me. I guess some of it is putting on a show. Some people have considered Kiss to be satanic as well as other bands, but some of these take it to extremes. My daughter is actually more into metal than me, but not sure she likes these bands. There's so many sub-genres of metal these days.
Yeah... I'm just trying to get through that chart from the Metal Evolution series.
I made comments about the dark side as well at the beginning and in the conclusion sections of the post. For most of them it is just marketing and an act. There are some exceptions, but they seem to be pretty rare.
Alice Cooper was doing some of this stuff decades ago, but what I know of his music is more rock. Some people just love all the horror stuff. I've heard about some incidents in Norway. Don't understand their motivation. Mostly metal is another type of showbiz.
Yeah he is in the Shock Rock post. :)
Gotta remember Charlie Manson was way into the Beatles Helter Skelter so it isn't just metal that has evil. Mozart was called satanic by some during his day, and of course tons of blues musicians have been labeled as such.
The fear of the evil and satanic is part of their marketing though. I have zero doubt of that, though it is really not my thing either. I am trying to approach the series from a scholarly perspective and not bleed too much of my own bias into the sub-genres I don't care much for.
I think every genre has some crazy people. Just see how many rappers have been shot. I think you are doing a great job and people may find something new they like.
I've found a few things I'd never heard before during the journey that I like. :)
