Roughly two million defiant New Yorkers took to the streets for the 44th annual Halloween parade after ISIS called on lone wolf attackers to target the event following a truck terror attack just blocks away.
With the city on high alert, costume-clad revelers stood side-by-side with police officers after the horrific attack, which claimed the lives of eight people and was carried out by 29-year-old Uzbek national Sayfullo Habibullaevic Saipov.
New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio and New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo were among those who attended the parade.
"We go forward together and we go forward stronger than ever. We're not going to let them win, and if we change our lives, we contort ourselves to them, then they win and we lose," Cuomo said in a press conference Tuesday afternoon in front of NYPD headquarters.
Not long after the attack, officials said that New York's 44th annual Village Halloween Parade will still take place but with a heavy police presence.
The parade, which featured 53 marching bands, dancers, artists and more, kicked off at 7pm on Sixth Avenue and Spring Street, traveling north and ending on 16th Street just around 11pm.
Sand trucks were rolled out along the route, as certain areas were barricaded off by police.
New Yorkers were photographed in bright and creative costumes for the popular event that took over the city.
Only those who dressed in costumes were allowed to march in the parade that was attended by roughly two million people.
