RAMADAN IS THE MONTH OF FASTING, NOT FEASTING!
My dear Steemians, There is a Ramadan that is arriving and there was a Ramadan that has passed by. So i I did not find bitter than this opportunity to write about this special month. After less than week we are coming up to a new Ramadan. So let's answer this principal questions:
- What's Ramadan?
- When does it arrive?
- What's Islamic Calendar?
- How we fast and pass Ramadan?
- what are the psychological and health benefits?
- What's the difference between old and new Ramadan for some people?
- what does Ramadan mean to Muslim celebrities?
What's Ramadan?
Ramadan is the great month in the Islam religion, it have been allocated to worship, more prayer and asking forgiveness from Allah and mention him and other acts. A month of fasting and working during the daytime and praying and mention Allah during the night.
Ramadan is the ninth month of the Islamic calendar.
When does it arrive?
In Islam, The month lasts 29–30 days based on the visual sightings of the crescent moon, according to numerous biographical accounts compiled in the hadiths. It arrives after the month of " Chaaban" and before the month of " Chawal".
So we can't discover when will it arrive before the sunset of the last day of "Chaaban" because we need to see the crescent moon. It begins on the last full moon of the month and lasts 29 or 30 days, depending on the year.
What's Islamic Calendar?
We all know that there are various calendar in the world according to the faith and history of various people. So about our earthly life we all Muslims work with the Gregorian calendar but our religion based on the Islamic calendar. So let's see what dois wikipedia say about our Calendar:
The Islamic, Muslim, or Hijri calendar is a lunar calendar consisting of 12 months in a year of 354 or 355 days. It is used (often alongside the Gregorian calendar) to date events in many Muslim countries. It is also used by Muslims to determine the proper days of Islamic holidays and rituals, such as the annual period of fasting and the proper time for the pilgrimage to Mecca.
The Islamic calendar employs the Hijri erawhose epoch was retrospectively established as the Islamic New Year of AD 622. During that year, Muhammad and his followers migrated from Mecca to Yathrib (now Medina) and established the first Muslim community (ummah), an event commemorated as the Hijra. In the West, dates in this era are usually denoted AH (Latin: Anno Hegirae, "in the year of the Hijra") in parallel with the Christian (AD) and Jewish eras (AM). In Muslim countries, it is also sometimes denoted as H from its Arabic form (سَنة هِجْريّة, abbreviated هـ). In English, years prior to the Hijra are reckoned as BH ("Before the Hijra").
How we fast and pass Ramadan?
During all the month, we are obligated to renew our spiritual commitment through daily fasting, prayer, and acts of worship. This special month is much more than abstaining from food and drink. It is a time to purify the soul, refocus attention on Allah, and had been allocated only to allah and practice self discipline and self sacrifice to make hearts and minds so clean. Let's explain those main points of Ramadan.
- Fasting
Fasting during the month of Ramadan is one of the five pillars of Islam that shape a Muslim's life. The Arabic word for fasting means "to refrain," from so many things physical and behavioural.
The physical fast is daily refrain from food and drink from sunrise to sunset. Before dawn, we eat a pre-fast meal called the suhoor. At dusk, we break the fast with a meal called the iftar. Both meals are communal, but the iftar is more because it's an especially social affair when extended families gather to eat.
The behavioural fast : to refrain from evil actions, thoughts, or words and in general all bad behaviours.
- Ramadan Worship and Prayer
prayer is the main basis for much Muslim faithful. Muslims are oblgated to pray and attend a mosque to pray together. Nightly prayers called tarawill , pray with the Quran over the course of the month in order to finish it.
- Charity
The charity or zakat is also of Islam's five pillars. Muslims are encouraged to give regularly as part of their faith (zakat).
But also During all the year, so many Muslims choose to make particularly generous sadaqahs as an act of their faithfulness and being thankful. But in Ramadan is another kind it's not an act it's a duty.
what are the psychological and health benefits?
Fasting has so many of the incredible health benefits on our overall well-being. I will mention 4 of them but at the same time if you diabetics or you have a problem with your health, fasting will be dangerous to your health. you are not recommended to fast as your medical condition may worsen, because the Islam already mentioned that. Here are some of the health benefits of fasting:
-Provides tranquility of the heart and mind
-Improves your blood fat levels
-May help you overcome addictions
-Promotes fat breakdown and weight loss
It also has a lot of psychological benefits:
-Fasting increases your sincerity to Allah , which leads to true happiness
-Fasting increases your self esteem.
-Fasting increases your sense ofgratitude.
-Fasting increases social ties
-Fasting increases our self-awareness and self-control
What's the difference between old and new Ramadan for some people?
You eat this big meal and you consider yourself a good faster, you have to be ashamed
Source
When the Islam appeared fasting was in the scorching heat of deserts.
We are finding it difficult in our air conditioned cabins.
Ramadan was a month of Ibaadah ( worship)
Ramadan has become a festival for many of us.
They fasted
We feast
They fasted by hunger and thirst.
We fast by fast foods and colas.
They knew the quantity of dates they had for 2 meals,
We can’t know the quantity of dishes we eat. We eat without limit in iftar and sohour.
In the last 10 days they looked forward the night of Al Qadr.
In the last 10 days we wait the last day to feast.
They passed all the nights adoring their Lord
We stand all the night in eating, shopping and coffee till late nights adoring our tastes.
Sorry because i can't mention all the ideas flying in my mind, there are a lot to be discussed.
That was Ramadan in their times.
This is Ramadan in our times.
what does Ramadan mean to Muslim celebrities?
So dear Muslims steemians tell me what do you think you will do in this coming Ramadan, because we all know that it may be the last or not.
Will you fast or will you feast???
Fasting is a duty and obligated but feasting is your choice and be ready to your rewards after.
Another point to know the main purpose of Ramadan, you have to be ready to be peaceful in all the rest of your life because Ramadan is just the beginning point to find your way to be a good man, don't return to your bad behaviours and committing the same mistakes. If you wait Ramadan to be finished, you will never success in your faith
