HAVOC - Movie Review
HAVOC
3.5 out of 5 Stars
What I liked most about HAVOC was the gritty world Gareth created. It's always cold; there isn't a bright or warm moment in the whole picture. Everything looks and feels dirty, and that includes the psychology of its characters.
It's a brutal, cathartic journey of redemption for the semi-corrupt cop played by Tom Hardy, who does some of his best work in years because he plays it naturally without trying to do some Brando-like characterization. He's quite good and elevates the picture, especially in the second half and that memorable last shot of the film.
I never saw the RAID movies but Gareth's over-the-top action goes a bit too far for me at times. The club fight is pretty fantastic but the cabin finale gets cartoonish. Still, there's a guilty pleasure in this gruesome entertainment.
Watched on Netflix.
