Hello dear Steemians,

I hope you are all well and that this new week finds you in great shape, with your creative spirit still alive. It is with great enthusiasm and a touch of emotion that I participate in this sixth and final week of the Movie Snapshots Season 25 competition, organized in our beautiful Steem4Nigeria community.

Throughout these last weeks, we have traveled through the world of cinema, exploring moving stories, imaginary or rooted in reality, and shared our impressions with passion. For this week with the very special theme, Your Life on Screen, I have chosen to talk about a film that has deeply touched me because it reflects a part of my identity, my experiences and the silent struggles I have led.

Watch a movie that reflects a part of your identity, culture, or experience.

Of all the films I have seen over the years, Billy Elliot is undoubtedly the one in which I recognized myself the most, as it embodies with finesse and accuracy certain profound aspects of my experience. This film, directed by Stephen Daldry, features a young boy from a working-class background, who discovers classical dance by chance and decides to make it his passion, despite the stereotypes, the rejection of his family and the rigid environment that surrounds him.

This story immediately took me back to my own youth, to that time in my life when my aspirations conflicted with the expectations of those around me, like Billy, I grew up in a world where I was expected to follow a well-trodden path, often far from my deepest desires.

I experienced this feeling of inner solitude, this need to express myself differently, and this difficulty in making my voice heard in a world that did not always leave me room to exist as I was, Billy Elliot, in this sense, is for me much more than just a film and it is the reflection of an intimate struggle for freedom, recognition and self-realization.

Mention 5 things from the movie that motivated you to keep pushing in life.

This film not only touched me emotionally, it also offered me concrete life lessons that influenced the way I see the world and persevere through my own personal struggles:

  • The first lesson I learned from the film is that sincere passion always prevails, even in the most hostile environments. Billy dances because he cannot do otherwise, it is his language, his breath, his truth. This raw sincerity taught me that you have to listen to that inner voice, even when the world rejects it.

  • The second lesson is that of endurance in the face of adversity. Every obstacle Billy encounters is his father's prejudice, the mocking looks of other boys, the fear of failure which becomes an opportunity for him to grow. It taught me to never stop with rejections, but to turn barriers into springboards.

  • Third, I understood that the presence of a mentor can radically change one's life. Mrs. Wilkinson, his dance teacher, embodies this caring but demanding figure, who believes in him when no one else does. Her quiet but constant support reminded me how important it is to reach out and accept help from those who see our light before we can even embrace it.

  • A fourth lesson the film taught me is the power of family reconciliation. Seeing Billy's father, who was initially fiercely opposed to dancing, end up supporting his son and making sacrifices for him moved me deeply. It showed me that dialogue, mutual understanding and love can sometimes be born in times of hardship.

  • Finally, the fifth lesson is that of the courage to believe in the impossible. The final scene of the film, where adult Billy enters the stage to dance in Swan Lake, symbolizes the realization of a dream that no one believed possible. She gave me confidence in the future, reminding me that our efforts today are the foundation for our victories tomorrow.

Who was your favorite character? And why?

The character who struck me the most in this film is undoubtedly Billy himself, because his journey seemed to me to be at once profoundly human, universal and intensely personal. What touched me about him was his ability to remain faithful to what he feels, even when he is the only one who believes in it. He is young, often misunderstood, but inhabited by an inner energy that pushes him to continue, his sensitivity, his anger, his doubts, all of this makes him profoundly real.

He is not a hero in the classic sense of the term, but a vulnerable being who decides, against all odds, to give himself a chance. Her ability to transform pain into movement, to make dance an outlet for her condition, deeply moved me. In him, I saw a mirror of all the people who, despite social constraints, choose to exist fully according to their own truth.

Mention at least 2 movies you have seen this year that inspired you and why they did.

Apart from Billy Elliot, two films that I discovered this year deeply inspired me and left a lasting impression on me, the first is The Pursuit of Happyness, a moving film that traces the life of Chris Gardner, played aptly by Will Smith, This film taught me that human dignity does not depend on wealth or social status, but on our ability to believe in our dreams even when everything collapses around us, Chris, despite humiliation, poverty and precariousness, continues to fight for his son and for a better future, this message of endurance, patience and faith deeply moved me.

The second film is The Chorus, which tells the story of how a music teacher changes the lives of troubled young boys through the magic of singing. This film reminded me that art has immense power to heal inner wounds, build bridges between people and restore confidence to those who had lost it, these two works, like Billy Elliot, helped me believe that even in the darkest situations, light can emerge if we keep faith in ourselves and in others.
