My Top 10 Metal Albums of 2017 - no.5

We are half way through the list, and so far, we had amazing bands with amazing sound, structure, musicians. Next 5 are going to, not only be the best albums of 2017, but albums that I've listened through and through so many times, that I can sing every riff, solo, even drums! So beware, 'cause they are fucking brutal, beautiful, and the best 5, of 2017

Archspire - Relentless Mutation

Archspire is an American technical death metal band that was formed in 2007 as Defenestrated in Vancouver, British Columbia, but changed their name to Archspire in 2009. The band's current lineup consists of Spencer Prewett (Drums), Tobi Morelli (Guitars), Dean Lamb (Guitars), Oli Peters (Vocals) and Jared Smith (Bass).

Relentless Mutation is their 3. album released on September 22nd, 2017, via Season of Mist.

The first song, “Involuntary Doppelganger,” introduces the idea of what this album is all about. When you first hear this track, you hear maybe the fastest vocal delivery in death metal up to now. Oli Peters really goes all out with his vocals on this release in general. On “Calamus Will Animate” his vocals sound like a machine gun, literally.

Beyond the vocals, the music itself is top-notch, and totally what you would expect from a band that tries to defy the limits of human speed. It is mostly shown in the drumming, with alternating hand-blasts and the wave after wave of double kicking bursts, that this band is the fastest beast in technical death metal scene. The guitars are designed for speed and heaviness, but they often delve into melodically, almost dreamy, segments. The bass guitar is usually drown in the sound of other instruments and doesn't get it's chance, which is a shame.

In the end, Relentless Mutation is not the perfect album by any means, however, I can’t deny that this is a great milestone for them, and the genre itself. So check this album out, of course if you want your brain to melt, 'cause it is that good! \m/
