Pop Music Conquering the Music Charts Again?
Music scene has been saturated with hip-hop and trap music for the past few years, and it's kinda tiring to hear that they almost sound alike. Their rapping even sounds mumbling, that the words can't hardly be understood.
It's been awhile since we had huge pop tunes, and famous pop stars from recent years didn't release any record. Recently, some famous pop stars released new singles, which is an indication of a new album coming out. It's refreshing to see variety of music at the charts again. Here are some of those artists with their new singles.
Taylor Swift ft. Brandon Urie of Panic! At The Disco
ME!
The release of the song was too quick. It's like no announcement weeks prior its release. The music video of the song garnered millions of views in just a day. How about its performance at the charts? It already peaked at number 2 in Billboard Hot 100. However, it went down few positions the following week. It suffered negative reactions from critics as well. But it's too early to say. If it will catch up on radio, and stable sales and streaming numbers can make the song stay at the top 10. However, I don't think it will reach number 1 considering the strong competition at the charts at the moment. If it won't reach number 1, it would be her first single off an album to miss the number 1 since her last full-length country album Speak Now. A new and better single will likely go to number 1, and her new album will likely debut at number 1 again.

Shawn Mendes
If I Can't Have You
Less than a year after his self-titled album's release, Shawn Mendes released the new single If I Can't Have You, which is an indication of a new album coming. I am not sure if he is taking the route of Ariana Grande for releasing two albums in a short period of time in between. His self-titled album was his best work. The album did great, but it didn't score a top 10 hit. If I Can't Have You surprisingly became Shawn Mendes' highest peaking song in Billboard Hot 100, where it debuted at number 2. It wasn't too strong though as it dropped out of the top 10 on its second week. It is stable at the top 20 zone though.

Ed Sheeran and Justin Bieber
I Don't Care
Ed Sheeran and Justin Bieber are undoubtedly the two pop kings of the moment. It was also a surprise as the two released their collaborative song I Don't Care. Is it a great song? I don't think it even matches Shape of You. For a collaboration of two reigning pop stars, the song actually sounds mediocre. I felt like it's a song scrapped from Ed Sheeran's blockbuster album Divide. The song is actually part of Ed Sheeran's upcoming album No.6 Collaborations Project. I am also expecting this would be a preview for Justin Bieber's new album. I Don't Care also debuted at number 2 in Billboard Hot 100. Still unsure if it can unseat the currently mighty Old Town Road by Lil Nas X and Billy Ray Cyrus. It was already number 1 in UK Singles Chart for weeks.

Ed Sheeran (ft. Chance The Rapper and PnB Rock)
Cross Me
Ed Sheeran released this as a follow-up to I Don't Care. It was R&B influenced, but it is not something I thought of becoming a hit. It sounds ordinary, compared to any single released from Divide. It already charted at the top 40 of Billboard Hot 100, and top 10 in UK Singles Chart.

Katy Perry
Never Really Over
Katy Perry had missteps, which led to her drop in sales on her previous album Witness. Her recent collaboration with Zedd 365 didn't even fare well. Her new song Never Really Over is a breather, and her redemption. It was her best song since Prism era. The song was just released so it didn't chart yet, but it is heading to higher chart position.

Miley Cyrus
Mother's Daughter
Miley Cyrus recently released a new EP She Is Coming. It will be a follow-up from her country and folk influenced album Younger Now, which failed commercially. The lead single is Mother's Daughter, which is likely to chart but not at the top 10.
