Based on actual "work requests" from one DJ search service in San Diego County (California).

Survey limited to DJ requests for weddings, birthdays, graduations, private parties, and school dances only; NOT dance clubs.

1. Most requested: Sound/PA
2. So so: MC and Dance Lighting
3. Not so much: Mics (!)
4. Least requested: Fog machine and Karaoke

Types of Music most/least often requested in ads for paying gigs:

1. Most requested: Pop
2. Second Most: Rock and Top 40
3. Third Most: Country
4. So so: HipHop/Rap, R&B/Soul and Electronic
5. Not so much: Latin (!) and 1950s rock-n-roll
6. Least requested: Karaoke, Polka (!), and 1920s/jazz/swing

Average (estimated) number of guests per event: 92

Average contracted DJ event duration: 4.5 hours

Average contracted DJ pay-per-hour: $123/hour

Average DJ contractual consideration: $554 per gig
