Are streamingservices good for artists?
@melbookermusic posted some posts about Streamingservices and if they are good (or bad) for artists. I think it is just like in the daily life, the more important the person the better financial perspectives. This counts for Streaming services too.
Like I mentioned in my post of yesterday, about vlogger and how they make a earning making video's on YouTube, the same goes for music and artists in general. It almost looks like (at least in my close surrounding) that there aren't a lot of people any more who buys the real hardcopy vinyl, cd's or other media. It is way to easy nowadays to get a subscription to a streamingservice where you can reach millions of songs.
I personally use spotify because of the awesome catalog they have, almost anything you can find on Spotify. Where Metallica blocked their music on Spotify for many years they finally, some years ago, made a deal with Spotify to distribute their music trough Spotify. I don't think they get the same per stream rate mentioned in the sheet below.
Looking at the sheet above it's surprising that YouTube is the worst paying streaming service. I'll bet that has something to do that they are one of the biggest thus the most power.....But I am not sure. You have to get over 2 million streams to get a minimum monthly wage. But we all know that a lot of artists are going way...way over that, so it can be lucrative though... But only for the happy few.
You also see that they are spreading across multiple services to get the most revenue for their creativity. And I don't blame them because with the wide spread platforms the compensation is low don't you think...
The strange thing is that services like Spotify have to pay for the intellectual rights for the artists to the record companies while YouTube is open and free and won't pay for content people / companies place on it only for the views...
It is stated that already half of music revenue is comming from streaming services, who could have thought of that... Maybe it's time for @dsound to interfere with that to take a piece of that pie?
There are also some artists that refuse to be present on streaming services, for instance this list, which shows which artists refuse to be present on spotify.
What do you think of the streamingservices and the power they seem to have?
Have a great day !!

They are the creators of Steemify, THE notification app for your Steemit account for IOS.

The fact is they are not going away so artists have either had to adapt or accept that they might not make what they once made. The other thing streaming services do though is give an artist more reach than they might have had back in the day with traditional means. Radio airplay was difficult to come by even if you were in a college town with an indie radio station.
That's true, just like with the YouTube I do listen to spotify recommended songs based on my playlists. There are a lot of (to me) unknown artists which are awesome but I would never have discovered them if it wasn't for spotify.
Where did u get the numbers from!?

At the end of the rabbithole they state: "These numbers are from one set of confidentially supplied data" => so this makes your post a repost of a repost of a repost & the source is confidental.... sure homie xD
Biggest problem on this article: Smaller Creators get paid way less than big ones (You get better deals as you get bigger on Youtube, Twitch etc.)
Source: div content creators
P.S.: this is not a rant! I just want to make journalism better :/
PPS: og source was from January 18 (far from up to date) btw ^^
Point taken ;) And I will go with the most you are mentioning. Will be more precise next time !!!! Thanks
