As some of you know I really love all kind of music. I grew up with a lot of influences of my parents. One of those influence was Melanie (Safka). My father had the habbit of being up early ever sundaymorning to listen to some records of his record collectio, and he had a big collection....
Today my brother sended me this youtube video of Melanie singing her hit (1970) song "Lay down" in a Dutch TV show of Willem Duijs. It brought back memories of those day's my father played her record on a lazy sunday morning :)

It gave me goosebumbs listening to this song. Not only the memory but also the passion she puts in her music.. Something I do miss sometimes in modern music. She has this voice like an angel, every word she sings I do believe. When she played "Lay down" in Holland she had just played on Woodstock as one of the three woman whom played a solo show at woodstock. The time Melanie become more and more famous there was already a big "peace and love" movement ongoing. Her music, voice and emotion fitted right in. It comforts, it relaxes.. It's just awesome..
Another great song of her is Beautiful People, this was her first real hit.. Also this song gives me goosebumbs.. I often say music is magic, music is emotion.... But that is absolutley sure for Melanie....

Another song a lot of people will recognize (the older ones lol) is Ruby Tuesday... A song performed (in the video) in 1997.

While I am thinking about the music in my youth, the music my father often played, I also remember Ellen Foley, I remember the song "We blong to the night" .... also a song with so much emotion, at least for me...

Looks like she has a album of covers that Spotify added in 2010. Also looks like she was very particular to Bob Dylan and his sound. I like her voice. It has a lot of character to it. Kind of like Janis Joplin with a little more refinement. Good stuff!
Yes, she indeed fits in the Dylan and Joplin corner. Awesome voice isn't it :) Thanks !!
I know we have 'Lay Down' on a compilation somewhere but I'm not familiar with Melanie beyond that. I'm obviously missing out so will add her to the playlist.
If you like Ellen Foley then check out Pandora's Box. 'Original Sin' is an album devised by Jim Steinman and thus awesome.
