Groundnut farming photography
Groundnut is one of the most popular crops in the world, especially in Nigeria, where most farmers plant it for human consumption. People highly demand it due to the health benefits as well as the nutritional value it has
Groundnut oil is mostly used by local people to cook food or fry chicken and other edible items. This groundnut has been harvested, and the farmers decided to dry it under the sun for safe storage. This is the traditional way of storing groundnut so that it can be preserved for a long time.
Groundnut, or peanut, can be eaten depending on our choice, either boiled or roasted, and some prefer to eat it with other food to enhance the flavor they desire.
Fortunately for us in Nigeria, groundnuts are mostly planted in northern Nigeria, such as Kano, Taraba, Kwara, Adamawa, and so on. They cultivate this crop because their soil has nutrients that allow groundnuts to germinate quickly.
We have different varieties of groundnut, and most of them are doing well, especially when planted in loamy soil. It is best to plant them on ridges rather than flat surfaces so that we can achieve the best results needed. Farmers can also utilize irrigation methods, especially during periods of absence of rain to help the groundnuts grow.
Weeds affecting groundnuts can be controlled using chemicals, manual tools, and mechanical means. Once weeds are present, they affect the growth of the groundnut. It's better to get rid of weeds so that they can work effectively on the seeds.
During the harvest period, which is normally 4-5 months after planting, we can now harvest our groundnuts. It's good to pull the plants from the soil or use a hoe, as this makes the process easier when we use our hands. We can also use the dry leaves of our groundnuts to feed livestock, as most of them love to eat it due to the nutritional benefits it contains.
