,Creative Writing: Corn Harvesting And Local Method of Preservation for Next Season

In my maize farm
Happy harvest Day to you all my steemians in the Nature& Agriculture,it a time of harvest in my neighborhood and the crop is Maize (Corn).
Maize or corn is being planted in the month of March and April,so personally I did my own farm,a 2 plot of land for Corn planting, clearing the bush and burning it and later planting it when the heavy rain started raining.

So the month of May and June has been the harvest months,a lot of farmers are happy to do the harvesting,this makes a lot of family to have food in different form. I was among the farmers that that the nature for booming harvest after planting,so i went to my farm and the first planting was mature and set for harvest,i was so excited seeing a unique farm land having good growth of corn and it was all dry for harvest,so I started cutting it in large numbers and stacked up all in a bag to be easily convey to the house, this is an amazing period in the life of farmers, because much of them will be selling it whereas others will preserve it for next season or sale it When it is scarce in the market.

I was selling the fresh corn for money and it pays me a lot because I really make money out of the sales,at least the money i spend to cultivate the farm has been paid through the corn money.,it was like a joke that people were still coming locking for the fresh corn to buy.

The Local preservation Method

As a matter of fact,the dry corns can not be wasted or keep it to be damaged, because excess products is a waste and after it season,it will be highly demanding for consumption,so preserving it is necessary for subsequent uses. So in my own local method of preserving the corn,I recall when my late mother was doing it some years ago about 2 decades, I find a long rub and construct a store under the eaves of our kitchen in the village,but rhe the storage can also be done on a beam of hut,,so I hang all the maize cobs.

At this point, when they are cooking the smoke from the fire below or under will prevent pests from attacking it and also get the maize dry, but this method can only be used in a limited time only ,the period should not be beyond 3 months base on the pressure of fire burn and the smoke..

At this point,if the grass are taken off the cobs, they are usually stored in earthenware containers or also can be stored in a bins make of earth or plant materials

These container should be tightly sealed to prevent pests from entering.

This is to avoid pests like weevil s,stem borers and corn smut, maize rust. This method of preservation or storage is commonly found in my village and it helps local farmers to have maize for subsequent cultivation.
