Sweet Orange (Malta) Cultivation Method

in Nature & Agriculture3 months ago

Assalamu alaikum,
Sweet Orange ( Malta) is a delicious and nutritious citrus fruit, which is successfully cultivated in some parts of the hilly regions and northern parts of Bangladesh. But now it is possible to cultivate this fruit in almost all areas of Bangladesh using improved seedlings. @mostofajaman brother also cultivates good quality Malta in his land. Apart from this, there are many agricultural entrepreneurs who like to cultivate Malta. Below are the basic methods of Malta cultivation step by step:

The right time to plant sweet orange trees:

The best time to plant Malta trees is the rainy season. June to August because there is enough rain at this time. Due to rain, the soil is moist at this time, the roots of new seedlings can easily spread to the soil and the need for irrigation is relatively low. Special Note: If there is irrigation system, then it is possible to plant seedlings in February-March. (This garden has its own irrigation system so it was planted in February). But I would advise you to plant seedlings only during the rainy season for risk-free yields. And of course, before planting the seedlings, preparations should be made by making holes and applying fertilizers.

Fertilizer application per plant:

Fertilizer application per plant Annual amount of fertilizer: 10-20 kg urea: 200-300 gm TSP: 200 g MOP: 150 gm lime: once every 2 years 1 kg of fertilizer should be divided into two parts and applied at the beginning of monsoon and winter. The best is silicon dioxide. Silicon dioxide destroys harmful bacteria in the soil. Super silica is best for Bangladeshi people.

Irrigation system:

During the dry season, it is good to irrigate the tree every 15-20 days. However, irrigation should be stopped a month before the buds appear, otherwise new leaves will start growing on the tree instead of buds. New leaves will not produce good fruit on the tree. This is very important. Therefore, we have to maintain irrigation very well.

Weed control:

A good way to control weeds in the Malta,s garden is to apply long-term herbicides. For example, applying Perquad or Glyphosate. Applying Glyphosate will not kill weeds for 5-6 months. However, the herbicide should be applied 60 days before harvesting the fruit. This will not cause any toxicity in the fruit.

Diseases and Pests:

The main diseases are- Citrus canker: Leaves get spots; There are also insects or aphids. For leaf spots, spray copper oxychloride and for spider mites, spray abamectin and for insects, spray imidacloprid. Leaf drop disease: Apply fungicide. Insects: Apply appropriate insecticide if attacked by white flies, red spider mites, fruit borers. If you want, you can know all this by texting me. Or if you are in any part of Bangladesh, I can get a skilled team member to inspect your garden.

Fruit collection:

It starts bearing fruit within 3-4 years of planting. Currently, many gardens start bearing fruit within 2 years. The fruit is usually available for collection from October to January. When the fruit ripens, the malta is slightly soft and dark orange in color. If collected at this time, good weight is obtained. Up to 10-15 tons of fruit can be obtained per year from one hectare of land. If the market price is good, it is a very profitable cultivation. Currently, this malta cultivation is the main choice of the youth.
