Explain the importance of seed selection for safe food production.

‎Seed selection plays a key role in safe production and outcome. Every farmer should care about this. It is essential for both him and consumers. A few days ago, a famous seed and chemical producer company of Bangladesh, ACI Limited, came to visit our farmers. They described how to select the best seed for cultivation. Here are a few key aspects to focus on.

Disease Resistance

‎This is the key to selecting a seed. A disease-resistant seed means less pesticide to use. The lesser the cost to farmers, the less the effect on health.

Genetic Purity and Quality

‎Genetic purity and quality are other things to be maintained. Various genetic needs require various types of care, which is impossible to provide. That's why farmers need to ensure the genetic purity and quality.

Environmental Adaptability

‎Environmental adaptability is the key to good yields. If a seed cannot adapt to the environment, the soil, or the climate, it will never give good results.

Reduced Chemical Use

‎Fewer chemicals used means lower cost and less health risk. This is beneficial for both the farmer and the consumer.

Choosing the right seeds means healthier crops, fewer chemicals, and safer food.

What will be your steps to produce safer crops?

‎I will take something into mind when producing safer crops. At first, I will focus on seed selection. Perfect seed selection will reduce my cost and produce good crops. I will maintain the soil health if it is in a condition to harvest. I will use safe water resources so that my crops aren't affected by water.

‎I will utilize the pesticide, herbicide, and other chemical management. Better chemical management produces healthier food. As a concerned farmer, my job is to minimize the chemical use. Regular monitoring and record-keeping will help me make better crops. I will always practice sustainable and ethical harvesting.

What is the best time to plant the crop you want to grow, and after how long will you get the harvest?

‎Bangladesh is a rice-based nation. Paddy is our main crop, so I will produce it mainly. Usually, there are two seasons for harvesting paddy. In some areas, paddy is harvested three times. But to maintain the fertility of the land, I will produce it twice a year. Paddy needs seeding before planting on the land. Two months before planting, it needs to be seeded. At the start of January, seeding started. At the end of February or March, the plant is cultivated on the land. It took 110 to 120 days to harvest. After harvesting rice, it needs to dry in the sunlight for several days. After that, it needs to be rice threshing to get fresh rice.

What inspires you to be involved in productive work?

Of course, my personal need is the main reason. I want fresh and safe food. After that, producing safe food commercially is just not a business; it's a service provided to the community I have. I must serve them safe and healthy foods. This is where I got the inspiration to get involved in productive work.
