How do you know when a product is in harvest season?

In my area we know a product is in harvest season when we see changes in the fruit or crop. For example fruits like mangoes and guavas change color when they are ready. A mango becomes yellow and gives a sweet smell. The size of the fruit also becomes full and the taste becomes sweet. Farmers also check by touching the fruit. If it feels soft or comes off the tree easily then it is ready to be picked. We also see changes in the market. When many people are selling the same fruits at low prices it means that fruit is in season. Shops carts and even village roadsides are full of fresh fruits. The smell of ripe fruits is in the airs. This tells everyones that the harvest season has started.

What factors can influence harvest time?

Many things can affect the time of harvest. The first and most important thing is the weather. If the weather is too hot or too cold the fruits may ripen faster or slower. For example if there is too much rain it may damage the fruit or delay the harvest. If the weather is perfect the fruits grow healthy and are ready on time. Another factor is the type of soil. Good and healthy soil helps crops grow better and faster. Poor soil makes the plants weak and the harvest takes longer. Water is also very important. Plants need the right amount of water. If there is too much or too little water it can affect the fruit quality and timing. Pests and insects are also a big problem. If insects attack the plants the farmer has to wait longer or spray medicine which can also affect the harvest time. So weather soil water and insects all play a role in deciding when a product is ready to harvest.

What fruits are currently being harvested in your community?

In my community the summer season is a very busy harvest time. Right now we are enjoying the harvest of mangoes watermelons guavas and grapes. Mango is the most loved fruit in our area. We wait all year for it. People eat them raw make juice milkshakes and even mango pickles. Watermelons are also very common these days. They are big red and juicy perfect for the hot summer weather. Guavas and grapes are also being picked in some gardens and farms nearby. These fruits are fresh sweet and full of health benefits. The markets are fulls of these fruits. The smell of freshs mangoes and the bright red watermelons makes the market look beautiful. People buy in large amounts and enjoy sharing them with family and friends.

Can these harvested products be sold at the same price as when they are not in harvest season?

No the price of fruits is not the same in and out of season. During the harvest season the price becomes very low. This is because there is a large supply of fruits in the market. Farmers bring many fruits to sell and sellers reduce the price so they can sell more quickly before the fruits spoil. But when the harvest season is over the prices go up. For example mangoes are cheap in summer but in winter if someone wants to buy them they are very expensive or not available. Out-of-season fruits are harder to find and sometimes they are stored or imported which increases their price. This is why many people buy large amounts of fruits during the harvest season. Some even make jams or store them in freezers. It helps them enjoy the taste later without paying a high price.
