On May 23, 1951, by official decree, it was declared as the national flower, after an exhaustive investigation of the Venezuelan Society of Natural Sciences. It is popularly known as Flor de Mayo because in the 19th century the people used it to decorate the "Cruz de Mayo".20190923_225608.jpg
