The news of the disappearance of the newly married couple of Indore, Raja Raghuvanshi (29) and Sonam Raghuvanshi (24) during a honeymoon in Meghalaya attracted the attention of the entire country. This thrilling journey turned into a terrible tragedy when the king's body was found in a deep ditch near Weisodong Falls in Meghalaya. There was no clue of Sonam for ten days, making the matter more mysterious. But on 8 June 2025, there was a shocking turn when Sonam surrendered at Nandganj police station in Ghazipur district of Uttar Pradesh. The Meghalaya Police revealed that Sonam had conspired to kill her husband and appointed rented killers for this.

Meghalaya Director General (DGP) Idshisha Nongrang said that Sonam hired three people to kill the king, two of which were arrested from Indore, Madhya Pradesh and one from Uttar Pradesh. According to the police, the murder was part of Sonam's careful plan, and preliminary investigation stated that an additional relationship behind it is as the main objective. Police sources told India Today TV that Sonam had a connection with Raj Kushwaha, causing a conspiracy to kill her husband. This sensational revelation made the case more complex.

Raja and Sonam, who tied the knot on May 11, 2025, left for Meghalaya on 20 May. He stayed at a homestay in Nongarit village in Meghalaya on 22 May, from where he went missing the next day on 23 May. In CCTV footage, the couple were seen leaving the goods in homestay and then left on a rented scooty. Scooty was later released near the place where the king's body was recovered. On June 2, the king's body was found in the ditch with the help of a drone, as well as a monk (weapon) and a shirt of Sonam, which led to the murder.

The Special Investigation Team (SIT) of the Meghalaya Police took rapid action and achieved great success in the case within seven days. Chief Minister of Conrad. Sangma appreciated the police by tweeting, in which he said, "The Meghalaya Police has achieved great success in the Raja murder case in seven days. Three attackers have been arrested from Madhya Pradesh, the woman has surrendered, and the action to catch another attacker continues." However, Sonam's family claimed that he was innocent and being implicated. Sonam's father, Devi Singh accused the Meghalaya government of making a wrong statement and demanded an inquiry from the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

At the same time, Raja's brother Vipin Raghuvanshi claimed that Sonam did not surrender, but the family had described the police as its place. The search for another suspect in this case is still going on, and the police say that further interrogation will reveal more objectives behind the murder. This case is not only a personal tragedy, but it exposes a complex story of love, betrayal and conspiracy.
