Nice post. It was charming for me to read.
I had a quiet New Year’s Eve with my family as one of my children had a high fever. So we sat tucked up under a duvet on the sofa and watched films and some live music that Jools Holland presents on TV in the UK. I can remember watching this same programme years ago when I was 13, 14, 15 etc, babysitting for adults that had gone to parties. That’s 37 years ago! So, you could say it’s a bit of a long tradition. 😄.
My eldest daughter celebrated some 10 hours ahead of us as she lives in Australia. She Skyped is just before midnight our time as they got up early to see the first sunrise of the year. For the first time my 2nd daughter was away at a party and not with us. But there were still 4 of us at home to toast in the New Year (2 more daughters).

I think we need to liven things up a bit next year. Your post inspired me to do so. 😄
