Chapter 16: I Kill Without Evidence!
Hearing Xu Deming’s words, Ning Chen’s brows furrowed slightly.
Lin Mei had just set out, and already there was unrest in the capital?
After so many years, it seemed some people still could not sit still.
A cold light flashed in Ning Chen’s eyes.
As long as his injuries were properly treated, all of their schemes would become nothing but empty illusions!
“Alright, I understand.”
After a moment of silence, Ning Chen nodded and said in a low voice, “Thank you, Old Master.”
Xu Deming quickly waved his hand in a fluster, “Don’t dare, don’t dare, this is all I ought to do!”
After a pause, he spoke again in a solemn tone.
“By the way, regarding the matter you asked me to investigate—there has been some progress.”
At those words, Ning Chen’s expression sharpened. His fists clenched, and his voice carried an icy edge.
“How did Uncle Ning die?”
Xu Deming immediately explained.
“Three years ago, after Ning Wei sent you to the Liu family to marry in, he wanted to earn more money to cure your illness, so he began running about doing business.”
“Just when things were finally starting to look up, the Long family and the Han family set their sights on him.”
Xu Deming’s face grew grave. “The first time, Ning Wei was taken away for a full day and night. No one knows what happened during that time.”
“But the next day, when the Long family’s servants threw him out, he was covered in wounds!”
“They say that after returning home, he didn’t even have time to rest or seek treatment. Instead, he hastily began selling off property and drew up a will.”
“Three days later, Ning Wei was summoned by the Han family. This time, it was for two whole days and nights!”
Xu Deming glanced at Ning Chen, his voice hoarse.
“When he came back… not long after, he… he died.”
As the words fell, Ning Chen’s eyes turned blood-red, his aura surging like a storm.
“Long family! Han family!”
Ning Chen ground his teeth, his entire being radiating a terrifying murderous intent!
“Ning King, please calm your anger.”
Seeing his look, Xu Deming couldn’t help but feel a chill in his heart.
“At present, I don’t yet have solid evidence to prove that Ning Wei’s death is linked to those two families.”
“Please, just give me a little more time. I’ll definitely uncover a trail!”
Ning Chen shook his head, his gaze gleaming coldly.
“No need. With this much, it’s enough.”
Xu Deming was stunned. “But without evidence, we can’t just confront them outright.”
Ning Chen cast him a faint glance.
“I kill people—I don’t need evidence.”
As he spoke, a killing aura erupted from him, chilling to the bone.
Xu Deming trembled from head to toe, an icy dread rising through him. Swallowing hard, he forced himself to speak.
“From what I know, both the Long family and the Han family have experts above the fifth rank.”
“If you are seeking revenge, please—be very cautious.”
Ning Chen’s face remained utterly calm. He shook his head.
“Fifth rank… not worth concern.”
Martial practitioners were divided into nine ranks—first rank the lowest, ninth rank the highest.
Above the ninth rank, one shed the mortal shell and awakened innate qi, becoming an Innate Martial Artist—capable of splitting mountains and breaking stone, with extraordinary might!
Beyond Innate came the realm of Grandmaster, able to kill with a flower or leaf.
Above that, Great Grandmaster—a rarity like phoenix feathers and unicorn horns.
And then, a realm spoken only of in legends—Martial Saint!
But one had not appeared for countless years.
From Innate onward, each realm was further divided into three stages: early, middle, and great perfection.
A martial artist above fifth rank—
In a small place like Jiangcheng, would already be considered a top expert!
“Still, it’s best to be careful,” Xu Deming warned.
“After all, those two families have deep roots in Jiangcheng. They may even have hidden masters.”
Ning Chen clasped his hands behind his back and nodded faintly.
“Very well. I understand.”
After a brief pause, Ning Chen looked at him again.
“If there’s nothing else, I’ll take my leave.”
Xu Deming nodded and quickly called for Xu Jun, sternly instructing,
“Ning Mister is in your care. You must drive him home personally—no mistakes allowed.”
Xu Jun respectfully bowed his head.
“Grandfather, rest assured. I’ll see Ning Mister safely delivered.”
Xu Deming personally escorted Ning Chen to the hotel entrance.
Watching Ning Chen and Xu Jun get into the car, he stood and watched until it drove away.
…
On the way back—
Xu Jun sat upright, hands gripping the wheel tightly, eyes fixed ahead, driving more seriously than ever before.
Twenty minutes later.
The car had not yet reached the Xiao family estate, when Ning Chen, seated in the passenger seat, narrowed his eyes.
From a distance, he saw that many cars were now parked around the Xiao family villa.
Xiao Yunfei, his right hand wrapped in thick layers of gauze, had arrived with a large gang of thugs—at least fifty or sixty men—each holding sticks and weapons, looking fierce and aggressive.
With a smug face, Xiao Yunfei waved his hand and shouted.
“Move faster! Surround the Xiao family completely, front to back!”
“Today, not even a single fly is leaving this place!”
Xiao Yunfei’s expression was twisted with cruelty and pride.
This time, to take revenge, he had specially brought along a master from the Black Fiend Hall—Atai, a fourth-rank martial artist!
Atai was one of King Yan Xiao’s most trusted men, known as a fighter among fighters!
Since joining the Black Fiend Hall just a few years ago, Atai had earned great merit.
Xiao Yunfei had resolved—Ning Chen would pay the price!
“Ning Chen!”
Xiao Yunfei ground his teeth till they cracked, hissing hatefully.
“You injured me once—this time I’ll make you pay back a thousandfold!”
Just then—
A voice, cold as ice, suddenly sounded from behind him.
“Seems you still haven’t had enough of a beating today.”
Xiao Yunfei spun around.
When he saw Ning Chen with Xu Jun, his lips curled into a cold sneer.
Fixing Ning Chen with a deadly stare, he laughed darkly.
“Ning Chen, I was just looking for you. Didn’t expect you’d come walking to me yourself!”
“At the medicine conference, you got the better of me by sneak attack. But this time, your luck has run out!”
“Today, you die!”
Xiao Yunfei’s face hardened. He barked:
“Do it!”
At once, the mob of thugs surged forward aggressively.
“Hold it!”
Xu Jun stepped up, shouting sternly,
“Xiao Yunfei! Mister Ning is an honored guest of the Xu family. I won’t allow you to act recklessly!”
“And the Xiao family—you won’t touch them either!”
At his words, Xiao Yunfei’s eyes glinted with ridicule, as if he had just heard a joke.
“The Xu family, impressive?”
He sneered, his gaze dark and sinister as he fixed on Xu Jun. Shrugging, he said,
“Others may fear the Xu family—but me? I don’t give a damn!”
Xu Jun’s face turned grim. He hadn’t brought men with him when he went out.
Clearly, Xiao Yunfei came prepared—this wouldn’t be easy.
“Fine. Just you wait!”
Xu Jun scowled, pulling out his phone to make a call.
But just then, a hand pressed down to stop him.
Puzzled, Xu Jun turned to Ning Chen.
“Mister Ning, what are you doing?”
Ning Chen’s expression was calm.
“No need to call anyone. I’ll deal with these people. You just watch.”
Xu Jun looked worried, shaking his head vigorously. He urged in haste.
“Mister Ning, the Black Fiend Hall clearly came prepared this time. If something happens to you, I won’t be able to answer to Grandfather!”
But Ning Chen clasped his hands behind his back. In that instant, his entire bearing shifted, exuding an aura that seemed to tower over all beings.
“A swarm of ants, nothing more!”
