Chapter 2: My Medical Skills Aren’t That Cheap!
After waking up, Ning Chen asked the doctor about what happened and learned that Xiao Qingcheng had brought him to the hospital and that the Xiao family’s old master was in critical condition.
Ning Chen decided to check on the old man. If there was still hope, he was willing to step in—as repayment for Xiao Qingcheng saving him.
“Kid, who the hell are you?”
Seeing Ning Chen in disheveled clothes, covered in bruises and emitting a faint stench, Xiao Longhai immediately scolded, “This is the intensive care unit. Get lost, don’t be an eyesore!”
“You’re awake?”
Xiao Qingcheng forced a smile that looked more like crying when she saw Ning Chen.
“Thank you, Miss Xiao, for saving my life.”
Ning Chen said seriously, “As for the old master’s condition, I might have a way to save him.”
“You have a way?”
Before Xiao Qingcheng could speak, Xiao Longhai cut in impatiently, “So many expert doctors are helpless, and you, a fool, think you can join in?”
Ning Chen ignored Xiao Longhai’s mockery.
He quietly looked at Xiao Qingcheng and asked, “Miss Xiao, do you trust me?”
Though she didn’t know where his confidence came from, his serious expression didn’t look like he was joking.
Besides, her grandfather’s condition didn’t allow any more delay.
Letting Ning Chen try might be the last glimmer of hope.
Xiao Qingcheng nodded firmly. “I believe you!”
“You’re crazy! Absolutely insane!”
Xiao Longhai was furious. “You believe a fool can treat someone? Is your grandfather’s life that worthless to you?”
Hearing this, Ning Chen sneered.
“Don’t overthink it. If it weren’t for Miss Xiao’s sake, the Xiao family wouldn’t even be qualified to ask me for help.”
“My medical skills aren’t that cheap!”
Ning Chen’s arrogance instantly made everyone in the Xiao family look displeased.
“Medical skills? Ha!”
Xiao Longhai mocked, “You think saving lives is child’s play? Even if your medical skills were brilliant—so what?”
“Isn’t Southern Medical King powerful? I can still get him here!”
“Who do you think you are to challenge the Xiao family? We have all the money in the world to hire the best doctors!”
Ning Chen shook his head calmly. “Remember what you just said. Next time you beg me for help, I won’t lift a finger.”
Xiao Longhai sneered, “Southern Medical King is already on his way. With him here, I’d have to be insane to ask you for help.”
Just then, the sound of hurried footsteps came from outside.
“Southern Medical King is here!”
Everyone brightened up.
If Tang Hui had arrived, it meant the old master still had a chance!
“Quick, let’s go welcome Master Tang!”
Xiao Longshan acted quickly and led the Xiao family toward the entrance.
Soon, an elderly man in coarse robes with a ruddy face appeared before them.
His robes fluttered, his demeanor ethereal and majestic—he looked like a true master!
“Master Tang, you’re finally here!”
Xiao Longhai greeted him excitedly, carefully stepping forward to support Tang Hui.
“Master Tang, please check on my father. He might not last much longer.”
Knowing Tang Hui’s status as a national-level doctor, Xiao Longshan even gave him a slight bow.
“Alright.”
Tang Hui nodded simply and asked, “Where is the patient?”
Everyone immediately stepped aside so Tang Hui could approach the old master’s bed.
However, Ning Chen didn’t move, standing firmly in the center.
“Kid, move! Make way for Master Tang!”
Xiao Longhai yelled as he marched toward Ning Chen, about to push him aside.
At that moment, Tang Hui’s gaze fell on Ning Chen standing with his hands behind his back.
“Senior Brother!”
Tang Hui rubbed his eyes hard, and upon recognizing Ning Chen’s face, cried out in shock!
The next second, he moved even faster than Xiao Longhai, rushing in front of Ning Chen.
“Senior Brother, it really is you!”
Tang Hui was so emotional his voice trembled.
“It’s only been a few years, and you’ve forgotten all the rules?”
Ning Chen said coolly.
Hearing this, Tang Hui’s heart skipped a beat. He quickly stepped back and bowed respectfully.
“Greetings, Senior Brother!”
Only then did Ning Chen nod slightly, without saying another word.
The Xiao family was speechless.
Even the nearby experts and professors were dumbfounded, jaws practically hitting the floor.
Southern Medical King Tang Hui just called this young man ‘Senior Brother’—and bowed to him!
If they hadn’t seen it themselves, no one would believe it.
“Senior Brother, have you already examined the patient?” Tang Hui asked cautiously.
Ning Chen shook his head. “No. They invited you, not me.”
Upon hearing this, Xiao Longhai felt utterly humiliated.
“W-What is going on here…”
Tang Hui turned to glare at Xiao Longhai.
“Master Tang, please, just treat the patient,” Xiao Longshan said bitterly. “The old master doesn’t have much time.”
Knowing the urgency, Tang Hui nodded.
Following Xiao Longshan’s lead, he walked to the bedside.
Subconsciously, he glanced at Ning Chen—he was nervous with his senior watching.
Taking a deep breath, Tang Hui placed his hand on the patient’s wrist.
“Qi stagnation with blood stasis, phlegm accumulation, internal heat toxins, deficiency in both qi and blood... symptoms started about two and a half years ago. Flushed face, thirst, dry mouth and throat, insomnia, dizziness, and fatigue.”
He looked at Xiao Longshan. “Is that accurate?”
“Yes! Exactly!”
Xiao Longshan was thrilled. “Master Tang, is there a solution?”
Tang Hui’s face turned regretful.
“If I had been called half a month earlier, there might have been a chance.”
He sighed. “Now... it's very difficult.”
Upon hearing this, Xiao Longshan’s face turned pale.
The Xiao family sighed in disappointment.
“Master Tang only said it’s difficult—not impossible,” Xiao Qingcheng suddenly said. “Is there still hope?”
“Of course,” Tang Hui replied, glancing at Ning Chen.
He didn’t believe he could save the patient—but Ning Chen might.
His medical skills rivaled even their master’s!
Following Tang Hui’s gaze, everyone turned toward Ning Chen.
“Don’t look at me,” Ning Chen said calmly. “I already said—I won’t help.”
His words crushed the Xiao family’s last glimmer of hope.
“Ning Chen…”
Xiao Qingcheng took a deep breath and whispered, “Can you do it for me? Save my grandfather? I’ll apologize on my uncle’s behalf. Please?”
She bowed deeply before him.
“Please, I’m begging you—save my grandfather.”
Her voice trembled, and her sincerity was clear.
She hadn’t bowed when Xiao Longhai humiliated her earlier.
But for the old master, she was willing to lower herself and plead.
Ning Chen sighed—his expression finally softened.
“Use the Hidden Yang Needle, Cool-Through-the-Sky technique, Midnight Meridian to open the flow, and finish with the Eight Dragon-Tiger Needles.”
Hearing this, Tang Hui’s face lit up.
“Thank you, Senior Brother!”
He quickly pulled out silver needles and, with a solemn face, approached the old master.
One needle, two needles, three needles…
Tang Hui's technique was skilled. He placed seventeen needles in total, twisting, flicking, and extracting them skillfully.
In just a few minutes, sweat beaded on his forehead.
On the bed, the old master’s body began to tremble slightly.
Ning Chen watched with a frown.
Pfft!
Suddenly, the old man’s purple face flushed red, and he spat out a mouthful of black blood!
“This is bad, Senior Brother!”
Tang Hui panicked. “I’m not proficient with the last two of the Eight Dragon-Tiger Needles. The patient’s qi is reversing, yang gate is failing—he might…”
He didn’t finish, but the meaning was obvious.
He might die!
“Second Brother, kneel to Mr. Ning!”
At that moment, Xiao Longshan turned and looked at Xiao Longhai, his tone unquestionable.
“Kneel?”
Xiao Longhai was furious. “Why should I kneel to him? He just talked and didn’t even lift a finger. What if he’s a fraud?”
Xiao Longshan growled, “Still arguing? You want the old master to die?”
“Kneel! Now!”
