Chapter 6: I Hope You Divorce Qingcheng
“Nonsense! How could Qingcheng have gotten married to someone else? There must be some misunderstanding!”
Elder Xiao Zhenbang looked at Xiao Qingcheng. Her face was calm, composed—too calm. That reaction made him uneasy.
Could it be… she really did get married?
If a marriage alliance suddenly turned into a betrayal, that would cause a huge rift between the two families!
Taking a deep breath, Xiao Zhenbang said, “Let’s go greet our guest first. We’ll talk about the rest later.”
At his words, the Xiao family quickly followed him outside.
In the courtyard stood a young man, clad in luxurious attire, exuding arrogance.
It was Long Feng, the second son of the Long family.
Behind him stood two burly bodyguards, hands behind their backs, gazes icy as they stared at the Xiao family.
“Young Master Long, please come inside and have a seat,” Zhenbang greeted him with a smile.
“Cut the crap, Zhenbang!” Long Feng's eyes were cold and his voice filled with anger. “Your Xiao Qingcheng is engaged to my older brother, yet she dares to secretly register a marriage with this idiot? I’m here to demand an explanation!”
“What’s the meaning of this? Is the Xiao family looking down on the Long family?”
Everyone turned their eyes to Xiao Qingcheng and Ning Chen.
“This… can’t be true…”
Zhenbang gave a forced smile. “I wasn’t aware of this. Please allow me to ask.”
He turned to Qingcheng, frowning. “Qingcheng, what’s going on? Don’t tell me you really—”
Before he could finish, Qingcheng nodded. “That’s right. I married Ning Chen.”
“I refuse to marry someone I’ve never met, no matter how accomplished he might be. I simply don’t like him.”
Zhenbang’s face sank as he instinctively glanced at Long Feng.
It’s over…
Saying something like that in front of Long Feng—he definitely wouldn’t let it slide.
“You’ve got some nerve, Zhenbang!”
Long Feng sneered. “So this is the famous Xiao Qingcheng. What a mouth! My brother Long Zhan has served in the military and earned countless merits. Plenty of women dream of marrying him.”
“If your Xiao family hadn’t begged for this alliance, do you really think a woman like her could even get close to the Long family?”
“You should take a good look in the mirror before rejecting our marriage!”
His words were merciless and full of contempt.
Yet the Xiao family could only swallow their pride. The Long family was far too powerful.
“What did you say?” a cold voice echoed.
Ning Chen stepped forward, staring at Long Feng.
“Well, well. Looks like not everyone in the Xiao family is a coward,” Long Feng smirked. “I said—Xiao Qingcheng is a lowly woman, and you—”
SMACK!
Before Long Feng could finish, a loud slap landed on his face.
He stumbled backward, holding his cheek, stunned. “You… you dare hit me?!”
He had run wild in Jiangcheng for years. No one had ever laid a hand on him!
Zhenbang’s heart tightened with regret. Had he known Ning Chen was this impulsive, he wouldn’t have let him appear.
The others in the Xiao family were also frozen in place.
It’s over.
He’s done it now.
A slap like that—there was no turning back.
“So what if I hit you?” Ning Chen said coldly. “Qingcheng is my wife. Just for those words alone, I could kill you.”
“Be glad I’m in a good mood. Now get lost. Even the Long family can’t protect you.”
“So you're that idiot everyone talks about?” Long Feng’s face contorted. “You should’ve just stayed in the shadows.”
“You two!” he shouted at the bodyguards. “Break his legs! Let him learn what it means to offend the Long family!”
The two bodyguards moved without hesitation, their presence menacing.
“Stop!” Qingcheng stepped forward, shielding Ning Chen.
“Long Feng, if you have a problem, come at me. This has nothing to do with him.”
Long Feng sneered, “No need to rush, Qingcheng. Neither of you will escape.”
Seeing the situation worsen, Xiao Zhenbang finally stepped in.
“Young Master Long, please calm down.”
He forced a smile. “Qingcheng acted on impulse. I assure you, the Xiao family holds no disrespect for the Long family.”
“Ning Chen saved my life. I beg you, spare him this once.”
“I will personally bring Qingcheng to your house tomorrow to apologize.”
Zhenbang had already lowered himself enough.
But Long Feng wasn’t interested. “Do I look like a fool to you?”
He waved his hand. “Break his legs. If the Xiao family interferes, I’ll tear this place down!”
The bodyguards moved again.
“Go inside!” Qingcheng shouted, panicking.
Ning Chen’s heart softened at her anxious expression. “If I leave, what about you?”
“Don’t worry. I can handle these guys.”
Before she could say more, he was gone.
BANG!
A bodyguard was sent flying, bones crunching.
Before anyone could react, the second guard was also knocked down in one strike.
It took less than a minute.
The two elite Long family bodyguards were completely defeated.
“No… no way…”
Long Feng stared at Ning Chen, dumbfounded.
The man before him looked like a god of war.
“Now it’s your turn.”
Ning Chen approached slowly. In a blink, he stood before Long Feng.
SMACK! SMACK!
Two more slaps.
“These are for Elder Xiao!”
“You’re dead, Ning Chen. The Long family will—”
SMACK! SMACK!
“These are for Qingcheng!”
He grabbed Long Feng’s collar and continued:
“One for your arrogance.”
“One for your foul mouth.”
…
Ten slaps in total.
Long Feng’s face was swollen and bloody, his eyes vacant.
Everyone was stunned.
Ning Chen stepped on Long Feng’s chest.
“Do you yield now?”
Long Feng finally snapped out of it, furious. “Kill me if you dare!”
“If I survive today, you’ll be the one to die!”
“I’ll make sure Qingcheng watches as the Xiao family crumbles!”
“You don’t have the guts!”
Ning Chen’s eyes turned icy. “You want death? I’ll oblige.”
He raised his foot to stomp—
“Stop!”
Zhenbang rushed forward, panicked. “Ning Chen, you mustn’t! If he dies here, things will spiral out of control!”
Ning Chen hesitated, seeing the worry on Qingcheng’s face.
“…Alright. I’ll let him live—for your sake.”
He turned to Long Feng. “Tell the Long family, if they dare touch Qingcheng, I’ll wipe them out!”
Terrified, Long Feng scrambled to leave.
The courtyard fell silent.
Everyone looked at Ning Chen with new eyes.
Zhenbang finally asked, “Qingcheng, why would you marry him?”
“My marriage should be my decision,” she said firmly. “I just wanted to marry Ning Chen.”
“Since no one asked me before arranging the engagement, I don’t have to ask you to get married either.”
Her father, Xiao Longshan, looked embarrassed. “She’s young and impulsive. Please give her time to reconsider.”
“I’ve already made up my mind,” she said. “I won’t divorce Ning Chen.”
“You insolent girl!” Uncle Xiao Longhai roared.
“You dare shame the family like this?!”
“Enough!” Zhenbang silenced him.
He looked deeply at Qingcheng—then turned to Ning Chen.
“Mr. Ning, the Purple Star Leaf you wanted will be at tomorrow’s medicinal auction hosted by the Xu family. The Xiao family will buy it for you.”
“Also, if you have any other conditions, we will do our best to meet them.”
“But I have one request.”
Ning Chen looked up. “What is it?”
Zhenbang gritted his teeth and said it aloud:
“I want you to divorce Qingcheng.”
