[CO] Bobtail squid
Not a cuttlefish!
When I was doing my cephalopod studies I thought that this creature was a cuttlefish but I was mistaken! This is actually a bobtail squid! Now that I’ve finished coloring it for the ntopaz animal art contest I can’t help but think that it looks like a heart. I’m sure you can see it too if you squint your eyes tightly.
The progress...
This bobtail squid is the first out of my three studies that I’ll be working to color for the animal contest hosted by @shibasaki.

I started by layering colors in cool then warm tones with the round brush tool. Then I’d blend it. Afterwards, I began to experiment with skin textures using the spray can tool.

Next I began to add more vibrant colors like orange and green with the round brush. Then I a lighter shade of yellow for highlights and black for shading.

Once I got the right balance of colors I finished the image a light outline in blue and green paint spray splatter.

It's looking great in colours. I like the translucency that you created here, the pale blue light and the bright dots work really well together :D.
Thanks scrawly! Yeah the bright dots were a great addition in the end, glad you thought so too!
I thought this was a photograph! It's so ferkin cute!!
Nope! That’s the magic of black backgrounds! 🎩✨
I think it looks great!

Thanks kitty!
So nice, Foxi ! I like how bioluminescent he looks to be ! The bobtail squid is very adorable <3 <3 <3
Thanks Spider! Don’t you just wanna squish it lightly between your thumb and pointer finger?? I bet if we did then it would spray bioluminescent ink!!

Thank you!
Wonderful to see how you build up the subtly of colour and then right at the very end contrast it with some painterly splashes. Beautifully drawn @vermillionfox ♥︎♥︎⚖️♥︎♥︎
Thank you! <3
I can actually see myself painting this with traditional tools just to splatter paint in real life!!
