A Failed Project Or Maybe Not

in #palnet6 years ago (edited)

I bought this coloring book a few years ago. I saw these everywhere, everyone was coloring and posting photos on every social media platform, so I thought it will be a good idea to buy one.

According to specialists, coloring is a good idea and has some benefits.

Top 7 benefits of coloring for adults:

  1. Your brain experiences relief by entering a meditative state
  2. Stress and anxiety levels have the potential to be lowered
  3. Negative thoughts are expelled as you take in positivity
  4. Focusing on the present helps you achieve mindfulness
  5. Unplugging from technology promotes creation over consumption
  6. Coloring can be done by anyone, not just artists or creative types
  7. It’s a hobby that can be taken with you wherever you go

I don't know about others, maybe they are using this to manage stress levels and anxiety. My goal was totally different. I thought it can help me organize my thoughts better and think about solutions while coloring.

The book has 63 pages to color, I am sharing it with my niece and I guess we did four or five in total, I almost can't even remember which is mine.

I bought the book before I started to learn to draw. Back then I had no alternative, I knew I can't draw so this looked like a good idea.

Then I registered to Steem, saw a few drawing competitions and started to draw.

At the beginning it was just for fun, to be able to enter a contest or two. I knew I can't win anything as there were some really good artists here, always winning.

Then I thought I should try to learn some basics, maybe draw simple things.

About three years ago I met a guy on another platform who had some amazing drawings. I'm always admiring those who are talented and can draw or paint. He was one of them. I remember once he posted and apple, a colored drawing, a very good one. I congratulated him and he said anyone can learn to draw, it took him three years. Needless to say how surprised I was.

After starting learning to draw something had changed. I'm not saying anyone can learn to be a successful artist but I believe with a lot of practice you can achieve something.

Now the book is laying on the shelf, maybe I should sell it or practice to draw flowers and leaves from it.

I'm not sad about not using the book, on the contrary, I'm happy I can do more, I can draw things myself even if these are not complex drawings. Maybe this book has helped me to start drawing.

Do anyone here have a similar coloring book?

Many thanks.

I have the same coloring book. I think it is beautiful but a little intimidating. I should get it out and use it.

Thanks for the inspiration! I love what you have done so far.

Lol, good to know you have this same book too :) May I ask why do you find it intimidating?

I have a streak of perfectionism in my blood that I sometimes have to overcome and ignore. No biggie.

I understand that but this supposed to be fun and it's not for exhibition, so just enjoy it and forget about perfection.

Of course. I would never get anything done if I let perfection get in the way. You just wanted to know why and I told you. At 50 years old, it's nice to know why so that I can tame and overcome the negativity. I am just glad to still be here! :-)

Thank you.

I got two of these as well, in fact I may even have exactly the same one, I need to check. It's been a while since I've done any colouring as I have picked up so many hobbbies now

Same here, I stared drawing and not much time for colouring any more. I'm happy if I can finish a drawing the same day I start it.
