Mariana Trench, Mount Everest . . . and Inyo County, California . . . home to both the highest (Mount Whitney, in the Inyo National Forest) and lowest (Badwater Basin in Death Valley) elevations in the state, which are also the highest and lowest elevations in the lower 48 states.
