I do sun salutations almost everyday. I didn't know you can lose weight by doing sun salutations.
You are right in that when we do yoga, we cannot force our body to do a pose perfectly when it is not ready yet. We need to gradually train our muscles, tendons etc and make them pliable over a period. Otherwise we can easily injure ourselves.
Really @devann? that is so great to hear from you! Yes. If you do it rapidly, yes you can lose weight. this is actually my EMERGENCY WAY of losing weight. hehehehe of course, diet and lifestyle also plays a role....... This is how I do it- I do one cyle on Day 1- slowly then gradually build up my stamina until I can do 12 without stopping. Then finally, I would use a timer and challenge myself like- how many salutations I can do in 10 minutes. hehehe

You can do it rapidly without over stretching your limbs. Actually Surya Namaskar is not part of yoga but many books include it as part of yoga poses. Doing it rapidly is also good for your cardiovascular system.
