Besides my singing voice, I think it is a good idea :)
Perhaps it is because it creates an emotional connection of some kind with the work or perhaps that the singing takes the mind of the boredom or repetition? I think if we look back a bit further, hobbies themselves were things like knitting and tool making activities that facilitated work life rather than avoided it.
