Is Mate Suppression A Useful Framework To View The World?
There is a common aphorism that say "All models are wrong, but some are useful". When I see someone on the internet presenting a model, I mainly look for the usefulness. When we are not dealing with mathematics, it is easy to find anecdote after anecdote that completely goes against the theory. What I am looking for is usefulness of a framework. If a statement applies to even 2/3 of the cases, I'm willing to embrace it into the toolbelt I have.
I have observed the large established business being in favour of anti free market legislation and useless red tape. There are billionaire who built their wealth through free markets that support increased taxation (especially income tax and death tax). These things hurt them, but they hurt their upcoming competition even more and even eliminates some of the competitors altogether.
I didn't think of this as mate suppression. These actions are not necessarily even done with a conscious long term plan. The effect I see is this anti free market coercive gatekeeping that suppress the newcomers and even new innovations in favour of the status quo. Kodak shelving the digital camera they themselves invented was gave short term comfort to the company positions and the way they were conducting their film business.
- It's An Excellent Framework
- Useful Enough To Keep In Mind
- Not Useful
