I want to share with you something that happened to me when I was trying to get a photo for this contest.

I went downtown to look for a place to get a door and a fence in the same photo, and I thought of a supermarket where I always shop. After I finished shopping, I stepped back a bit and took my first shot. Then I took two more. As I was leaving, a young man called me and told me he didn't want to be in the photos I'd taken.

He told me to please delete the photos if he was in there. We reviewed them and yes, he was in there, but not in the foreground, rather from a distance, since the photo was taken in a very wide angle so that the entire front of the supermarket could be seen.

He made me go to the trash can on my phone, which I didn't know how to do because once I put them in the trash, I don't know where they go. He went in himself and looked for them, and we deleted them after a long search, since my trash can is full of photos I've deleted from my phone. He said, "You know it's illegal to take photos of someone you don't have permission to do so?" I said, "Yes, that's why I took them while I was away, and the others turned their backs on me."

The problem here isn't authorization or the lack thereof; the problem here is the abuse of power that a person has if they're connected to the government, something I couldn't risk finding out, so I treated him as kindly as possible and explained that it was all a photo contest for a website. You have to be careful with this because I could have ended up in jail.

Today I went somewhere else and got this photo, taking it far away so I wouldn't get criticized. There's never been a problem taking photos in public places here, but we live in a different time.
