Rosa Peace Flower So Amazing
Rosa 'Peace' – A Timeless Emblem of Beauty and Hope
Rosa 'Peace' is one of the most beloved and iconic hybrid tea roses in the world, celebrated not only for its exquisite beauty and exceptional performance but also for the profound symbolism it carries. A flower that bloomed amidst the turmoil of World War II, the 'Peace' rose remains a timeless symbol of hope, unity, and the enduring human spirit.
Origins and History
The story of Rosa 'Peace' begins in the 1930s with French horticulturist Francis Meilland, a gifted breeder from the Meilland family, whose name is synonymous with excellence in rose cultivation. Meilland developed this extraordinary rose from a cross between the hybrid tea roses.
Initially known by its breeder code ‘3-35-40’, the rose's cultivation and naming took on a deeper meaning as the Second World War began. With the fall of France looming, Meilland sent cuttings of the new rose to friends and partners in Italy, Germany, and the United States in a desperate effort to preserve the plant.
The rose was finally introduced in the United States on April 29, 1945, the very day Berlin fell to Allied forces—a powerful coincidence that inspired its name, ‘Peace’. It was formally named during the inaugural meeting of the United Nations in San Francisco, where each delegate received a bloom of the rose along with a note:
“We hope the 'Peace' rose will influence men’s thoughts for everlasting world peace.”
