I dont really like riding a scooter on Phuket because of the traffic and all the hills but one cant deny it that you come across some beautiful scenery if you do :-)
It's definitely good to be careful out there on the road. Some people think that just because they are on vacation that everything is fairytale like . Well the traffic can turn that picture into something quite scary in a hurry.
