Solanum trilobatum commonly known as purple-fruited pea eggplant it is native to India and Sri Lanka and is widely recognized for its medicinal as well as ornamental value the plant is a woody climber that produces beautiful violet-blue star-shaped flowers with bright yellow stamens at the center the flowers bloom in clusters and are followed by small round berries that turn from green to red when ripe the leaves are distinctively lobed usually in three parts which gives the species its name trilobatum this plant thrives well in tropical and subtropical climates and can often be found growing in open fields hedges and home gardens it prefers well-drained sandy loam soils and plenty of sunlight for healthy growth.
