Hibiscus is a genus of flowering plants in the mallow family Malvaceae known for their large, colorful, and trumpet-shaped blooms that are widely admired and cultivated around the world for ornamental, culinary, and medicinal purposes. Native to warm-temperate, subtropical, and tropical regions, hibiscus flowers come in a wide range of colors including red, pink, white, yellow, orange, and purple with some cultivars exhibiting striking patterns and contrasting centers.

The most commonly recognized species is Hibiscus rosa-sinensis, often referred to as Chinese hibiscus or tropical hibiscus, which is a symbol of beauty, love, and delicate charm in many cultures. The plant can be grown as a shrub, small tree, or container plant and typically blooms in abundance during warm seasons attracting bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds with its vivid colors and nectar.

Hibiscus thrives best in well-drained soil under full sun exposure and requires regular watering though it can tolerate short periods of drought once established. The blooms usually last for a single day or two, but the plant produces flowers continuously throughout the growing season making it a favorite for brightening up gardens, patios, and public landscapes. In addition to its visual appeal, hibiscus is valued for its health benefits particularly from the dried petals of Hibiscus sabdariffa which are used to make a tart, cranberry-flavored tea known as hibiscus tea or "sorrel" that is rich in vitamin C and antioxidants and is consumed to lower blood pressure and support cardiovascular health.
