A Symbol of Elegance and Renewal
The tulip may be widely associated with the Netherlands, but its roots trace back much further, to the mountainous regions of Central Asia. In the 16th century, tulips made their way to Europe, where they quickly captured the imagination of gardeners and aristocrats alike. The "Tulip Mania" in 17th-century Holland is a famous example of how this flower once became more valuable than gold.Tulips are surprisingly easy to grow. Planted as bulbs in the fall, they lie dormant through winter, only to burst forth in spring with color and life. Their neat form and limited foliage make them excellent companions in flower beds, borders, and containers.
