The Bay of Biscay has defining places, such as Mundaka and Bermeo, which, in addition to seducing travelers with their unmistakable beauty, have inspired, due to their ancient seafaring DNA, any of the extraordinary novels by world-renowned writers such as Joseph Conrad or Hermann Melville, set in the sea and its infinite possibilities. Added to this is the legendary impact of traditions that, in many cases, continue to be as powerful as ever today.
Mundaka, with its legendary, rusty cannons at the foot of the port and the watchful eye of a church dedicated to the media-famous figure of Andra Mari, the ancient Mother Goddess, whose habitat, according to mythology, is a cave on Mount Amboto, continues to attract experienced surfers from around the world who, like ancient Polynesian navigators, challenge the power associated with waters that, far from being peaceful, in this case, carry with them the strong character of a fearsome sea, such as the Cantabrian Sea.
On the other hand, it's not difficult to find inspiration in the old txokos and taverns located at the foot of the port, in that special place called Bermeo, an essential gateway for any lover of mystery and adventure. A pleasant walk leads to a very special place, whose magic, moreover, served as the setting for the hit series 'Game of Thrones': San Juan de Gaztelugatxe.
Tiene, el Golfo de Vizcaya, lugares determinantes, como Mundaka y Bermeo, que, además de seducir al viajero con su inequívoca belleza, hubieran inspirado, por su ancestral adn marinero, cualquiera de las extraordinarias novelas de escritores universales, como Joseph Conrad o Hermann Melville, ambientadas en el mar y sus infinitas posibilidades, a lo que habría que añadir el impacto legendario de unas tradiciones, que, en muchos casos, continúan vigentes hoy en día, con la fuerza de antaño.
Mundaka, con sus legendarios y oxidados cañones a pie de puerto y la atenta mirada de una iglesia dedicada a la mediática figura de Andra Mari, la ancestral Diosa Madre, cuyo hábitat sitúa la Mitología en una cueva del Monte Amboto, continúa atrayendo a surfistas experimentados de todo el mundo, que, como los antiguos navegantes polinesios, desafían el poder asociado a unas aguas, que, lejos de ser pacíficas, en este caso, llevan consigo el fuerte carácter de un mar temible, como es el Cantábrico.
Por otra parte, no es difícil, tampoco, encontrar inspiración en los viejos txokos y tabernas situadas a pie de puerto, en ese lugar especial, de nombre Bermeo, antesala imprescindible para todo amante del misterio y la aventura, que, además, en un agradable paseo, conduce hasta un lugar muy especial, cuya magia, por añadidura, sirvió de escenario para la exitosa serie ‘Juego de Tronos’: San Juan de Gaztelugatxe.
