[ENG-SPN] Viewpoints of The Liébana / Miradores de la Liébana

One of the countless viewpoints that travelers can find on this truly transcendental adventure, which, of course, constitutes a trip through the breathtaking surroundings of the Europe Peaks, is located a few meters above that authentic center of faith and culture, which, since the dawn of time, has been the emblematic monastery of Saint Toribio, formerly Saint Martin of Turienzo, next to a small and humble hermitage, whose dimensions are barely larger than the ancient breastplates of souls that greeted and bid farewell to travelers and pilgrims at the entrance to many of these small towns in northern Spain.

Dedicated to the figure of the Archangel Saint Michael, that Christian substitute for the almighty Jupiter Thunderer who reigned at the top of the Roman pantheons, from its location one has an impressive view of that cheerful region of Cantabria, which, gathered under the evocative name of Liébana, continues to watch the passage of time, sheltered in the splendor of valleys that contrast with the prominence of forests and mountains, in some places still barely visible.

It is from one of the countless perspectives that the traveler, moved by such a glorious spectacle, always tends to be carried away by the joyful and turbulent rivers of fantasy, feeling, moreover, privileged to have provided his sensitivity with the opportunity, not always within reach, to be able to feel, enjoy, and above all, admire a decidedly surprising and spectacular environment that his retina will never forget.

Uno de los innumerables miradores que el viajero puede encontrar en esa auténtica aventura trascendental, que, desde luego, es la acometida de darse una vuelta por el entorno sobrecogedor de los Picos de Europa, se encuentra algunos metros por encima de ese auténtico foco de fe y de cultura, que, desde el alba de los tiempos, es el emblemático monasterio de Santo Toribio, antiguamente, San Martín de Turienzo, junto a una pequeña y humilde ermita, cuyas dimensiones apenas son superiores a los antiguos petos de ánimas que recibían y despedían a viajeros y peregrinos, a la entrada de muchos de estos pequeños pueblos del Norte de España.

Dedicada a la figura de ese sustituto cristiano del todopoderoso Júpiter Tonante que imperaba en la cima de los panteones romanos, el Arcángel San Miguel, desde su situación se tiene una impresionante perspectiva de esa risueña región de Cantabria, que, recogida bajo el nombre evocador de la Liébana, continúa viendo el tiempo pasar, refugiada en el esplendor de unos valles que contrastan con el protagonismo de bosques y montañas, en algunos puntos, apenas hoyados todavía.

Es, desde una de las innumerables perspectivas, que el viajero, conmovido por tan glorioso espectáculo, tiende siempre a dejarse llevar por los alegres y revueltos ríos de la fantasía, sintiéndose, además, privilegiado por haber proporcionado a su sensibilidad, la ocasión, no siempre al alcance de la mano, de poder sentir, disfrutar y sobre todo, admirar un entorno, decididamente sorprendente y espectacular, que su retina jamás olvidará.
