Yellow Colour Thevetia Peruviana Flower

in #photography2 days ago

Thevetia peruviana, commonly known as the yellow oleander, lucky nut, or be-still tree, is a striking ornamental plant admired for its lush green foliage and bright, trumpet-shaped flowers. Belonging to the family Apocynaceae, this evergreen shrub or small tree is native to Central and South America but has now spread widely across tropical and subtropical regions of the world due to its ornamental appeal and hardy nature. Despite its beauty, it carries a dark side—it is highly toxic, making it both fascinating and dangerous.
Botanical Description
Thevetia peruviana grows as a perennial shrub or a small tree, often reaching a height of 3 to 6 meters. Its leaves are long, narrow, and glossy green, resembling those of true oleander, with which it is closely related. The plant produces an abundance of bright yellow, funnel-shaped flowers, though orange and peach-colored varieties also exist. These flowers bloom throughout much of the year, especially in warm climates, attracting bees, butterflies, and other pollinators.
After flowering, the plant bears distinctive fruits—smooth, green, or blackish drupes shaped somewhat like a nut. These fruits contain seeds that are highly poisonous, earning the plant its common names “lucky nut” or “be-still tree,” a grim reminder of its lethality.
Habitat and Distribution
Originally native to Mexico and parts of South America, Thevetia peruviana has been widely cultivated in Asia, Africa, and other tropical regions for ornamental and landscaping purposes. It thrives in well-drained soils and can withstand drought conditions once established. Because of its resilience, it is often planted in gardens, along roadsides, and in public parks. However, in some areas, it has naturalized and is even considered invasive.
Cultural and Ornamental Value
One of the main reasons for the global popularity of Thevetia peruviana is its aesthetic appeal. Its vibrant yellow blooms against the deep green leaves create a striking contrast that adds brightness to any landscape. Gardeners appreciate it for being relatively low-maintenance, drought-tolerant, and capable of flowering year-round in warm climates.
