A Cascade of Color and Spirit
Native to South America but now loved across the tropics and subtropics, this plant has a way of transforming walls, fences, and gardens into breathtaking displays of brilliance. Its paper-thin, petal-like bracts glow in shades of magenta, purple, red, orange, or white, making bougainvillea one of the most vibrant sights in nature.
What many people call the “flowers” of bougainvillea are actually bracts modified leaves that surround the plant’s tiny, white true flowers. These bracts come in vivid hues that look as though an artist splashed color across the plant. When in full bloom, bougainvillea can turn a simple wall or pergola into a living painting, alive with warmth and joy.
