The ornamental dish glass plant, better known as the Gardenia (scientific name: Gardenia jasminoides), is a popular flowering plant known for its beautiful and fragrant flowers.

Characteristics of the Dish Glass Plant

Flowers: Pure white, fragrant, with thick, waxy petals.

Leaves: Glossy, dark green, and oval.

Plant Height: Can reach 1–2 meters if not pruned.

Growth: Slow, but sturdy.

Dish Glass Plant Care

  1. Watering: Twice daily during the dry season, as needed during the rainy season.

  2. Fertilizing: Apply a balanced NPK fertilizer or a special flower fertilizer every 1–2 months.

  3. Pruning: To maintain a neat shape and stimulate new shoots.

  4. Replacing the growing medium: Every 1–2 years if planted in a pot.

  5. Watch out for pests: Such as mealybugs and caterpillars; these can be controlled with natural insecticides.

Benefits and Uses

As an ornamental plant in gardens or pots.

The flowers can be used as a natural air freshener.

In some traditional medicines, parts of the plant are used as herbal remedies, although caution is required.
