A Burst of Color and Resilience
The Paperflower, commonly known as Bougainvillea, is one of the most vibrant and cheerful plants found in tropical and subtropical gardens. With its paper-thin, brightly colored bracts, it often looks as though the plant is draped in a cascade of delicate petals. Yet, behind this fragile appearance lies a plant known for its toughness, resilience, and ability to thrive even in the harshest conditions.
The Paperflower isn’t just one color it comes in brilliant shades of magenta, orange, pink, purple, red, white, and even bi-colored varieties. Interestingly, what we call its “flowers” are actually papery bracts that surround the plant’s tiny true blooms. These bracts are what give bougainvillea its dramatic, eye-catching appearance, almost like a painting brought to life in the garden.
