A Twirling Wonder of Nature
The name “Pinwheelflower” isn’t just poetic it’s wonderfully descriptive. The flower's petals are arranged in a spiral that resembles a child’s pinwheel, spinning in the breeze. This unique shape is part of what makes the Pinwheelflower so memorable. It seems as if nature had fun designing it, giving it a playful and airy look.Botanically known as Tabernaemontana divaricata, the Pinwheelflower belongs to the Apocynaceae family. It’s native to Southeast Asia but has found a home in tropical gardens all around the world. In some places, it’s also known as the Crape Jasmine, though it’s not a true jasmine.
One of the most enchanting things about the Pinwheelflower is its pure white color, which gives it a clean, peaceful appearance. These blooms are often slightly fragrant, releasing a soft scent especially in the early morning or late evening. When planted in groups, they can create a dreamy atmosphere under the shade of trees or along garden paths. The petals are usually five in number, twisted gently as if frozen in a spinning motion. Even though they look fragile, they are quite sturdy, with a waxy texture that helps them withstand the humid climates they thrive in.
