So I just saw this post for a photography contest of boring subject matter which reminded me of some subjects I enjoyed shooting.
I always had a bond with this shot coz just like the old anchor, I am a bit weather and have been around a while. Ive got a flaw or two, may be a bit jaded, but hey, I'm still here ;)
I Love Taking Pics of the Ordinary
It may not be as easy as you think. Just taking random pics of things is not usually very satisfying. In this case, I try to envision a shot in a minimalistic fashion. One needs to consider angle and placement more than say a landscape where the sheer beauty does much of the work.
I call this one "Sweet Shot"
Much like people, if you look closely enough, many ordinary things are not so ordinary after all...

I thought I left a comment. How odd.
I think it is harder to take ordinary and make them look extraordinary when what I really want is for them to look unique. It takes a certain talent to get shots like the anchor and the pine cone and the gears. Wasn't sure what it was, but, I was pretty sure I should know. :)
Minimalism is rarely in my bag of tricks, yet, I am a huge fan of it. It has such a clean focus on it. Well done. Even the guy with the 13 rep was right. ;)

Oh I'm not a smoker but I thought most folks would recognize that is the top part of a lighter, like a Bic cig lighter lol.

Of course! I can see it now! I even use one now and then to light the fire.
Here I thought I was being artistic and clever, but the reality is no one knew what the heck it was...just my luck!
It was! I just had gears on the mind and couldn't shift my thoughts off that! As soon as you said it...
Boom! It was as plain as the nose on my face. Very artistically pleasing. I like when you can take a picture of a subject up close and personal and nobody can guess what it is.

Sometimes the boring and ordinary can be the most fascinating. Simple pine cones are everywhere but if you stop to really look at them they are complex and interesting.
