The Delicate Beauty of the Squash Flower
Squash flowers are large, trumpet-shaped blossoms that glow in shades of yellow or orange. They open wide in the morning to greet the sun and usually close by late afternoon. Their short-lived beauty is a reminder of nature’s fleeting moments an everyday miracle that can be easily missed if you don’t pause to notice.Interestingly, squash plants produce both male and female flowers. The male blossoms appear first, their role mainly to attract pollinators and provide pollen. The female flowers, distinguished by a small fruit-like bulge at the base, are the ones that eventually develop into squash.
