The waves whispered a warning as they lapped at the dark sand, their sound too gentle for the unease that settled over the beach. The air, still and heavy, carried the faint, metallic scent of salt and rust. As I looked out at the boats, their vibrant colors seemed to bleed into the deepening gloom, their names now looked like epitaphs. The sunlight, once warm and comforting, now cast long, menacing shadows from the trees, turning their branches into gnarled, skeletal fingers reaching for the empty sky.

Suddenly, a figure emerged from the water, their form indistinct and shrouded in a glistening, dark substance that could have been oil or something far worse. They moved with a jerky, unnatural rhythm, their head tilted at an impossible angle as if searching for something lost to them long ago. I tried to scream, but no sound escaped my throat. My feet were rooted to the ground, the sand now feeling like quicksand pulling me deeper with every failed attempt to run.

The figure reached the shore, and I could see their face now, or what was left of it—a featureless expanse of smooth, black stone. Their silence was deafening, more terrifying than any scream could be. They moved closer, the air growing colder with each step, the rhythmic slosh of the waves now replaced by the soft scraping of their body across the sand. The world shrank to a single point: the unblinking, horrifying gaze of this silent, dark entity from the sea.
